Services

HOLD CLEANLINESS

INSPECTION

All vessels’ holds/loading compartments must be clean, dry and free from odour before loading operations commence especially if the next intended cargo is a grain cargo. The loading compartments must be free of any residues of the preceding cargo and/or cleansing activities and apparently free of vermin.

The preparation of cargo holds for the next intended carriage is an important operational consideration on all bulk vessels. Our surveyors will carry out a hold inspection and/or a load compartment inspection (LCI) resulting in the issuance of a hold cleanliness certificate or LCI report for the compartme

SAMPLING

Sampling is an important step because it determines whether a consignment meets the contractually agreed specifications.Correct sampling is an operation that requires utmost careful attention. Inaccurate sampling inevitably will lead to analytical results that are not representative and/or not relevant for the consignment that was sampled.

Sampling should be conducted in such a way that the contractual samples accurately represent the population from which they are taken, in order that the analysis of such sample will be fully representative of the total contractual consignment. Our surveyors will carry out sampling in full conformity with the GAFTA 124 Sampling Rules.

WEIGHING

Following the 123 GAFTA weighing rules is important because it standardizes the weighing process for agricultural commodities, reducing disputes, ensuring accuracy, and protecting the integrity of trade for contracts incorporating GAFTA terms. Adherence to these rules provides a credible, transparent, and impartial method for determining commodity weight, safeguarding both buyers and sellers by minimizing discrepancies and conflicts arising from discrepancies in cargo quantities. GAFTA-approved superintendents play a vital role in overseeing and ensuring compliance with the weighing rules, which helps to guarantee the integrity of the process. Our surveyors will issue a weighing certificate to confirm the weighing method and final weight.

DRAFT SURVEY

Accurate draft surveys are crucial in shipping to determine the precise weight of bulk cargo, thereby ensuring fair commercial transactions, preventing financial disputes between ship and cargo owners, and maintaining vessel safety by avoiding overloading. A reliable draft survey provides a mutually agreed-upon cargo quantity, minimizing discrepancies and preventing disputes over cargo weight between shipowners, charterers, and cargo owners. Also, accurate surveys help prevent overloading, which can lead to dangerous situations and compromise a ship's stability and safety. TRANSCARGO SHELF’s surveyors are very experienced in carrying out accurate draft surveys.
